Fall season might not be in the air, but the fall semester leads students into the upcoming school year this week. First-years and returning students alike begin the semester searching for the best way to study for classes efficiently and effectively.
Studying goes beyond notetaking and time management. Here are some strategies to help you start your semester right.
- Go to class
The average student does not enjoy an 8 a.m. class, but attending class is the most important way to study and stay on track during the semester.
- Take advantage of campus resources
If you find yourself struggling with course material, stop by your professor’s office hours. Not only can it help you understand the material, but professors love to see students working their hardest!
You can also make an appointment at the tutoring centers. The Academic Resource Center’s tutors can assist you with math and science-related homework problems, critique speeches and edit your essays.
- Find a study partner
If you are having trouble focusing for long periods of time, find a friend to work on homework with or simply hold each other accountable.
- Turn off your phone
Avoid being distracted by social media by turning off your phone for a few hours. Eliminate the distraction and unplug.
- Stay organized.
Put everything in writing and keep your notes and assignments in order. Keeping track of dates and deadlines will help you stay on track and follow an effective study plan. Even if the assignment is not urgent, starting early is always beneficial.
