On Sept. 25 at 7 a.m., Jackson Street will be closed from Veterans Memorial Highway to the city limits at Phoenix Closures due to construction lasting from four to six weeks.

According to a city press release from Bill Dory, Major of Greencastle, the road is being closed so it can be widened and resurfaced, but also to improve the storm drainage, curbs and gutters.

The street will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and open to two-way traffic from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Friday. However, Thursday evening, Sept. 28 until Saturday, Sept. 30, the street will be closed for the replacement of a storm sewer culvert.

The project is being paid for by the City of Greencastle’s Redevelopment Commission in addition to a grant from the Indiana Department of Transportation’s Community Crossing Program. The contractors are J. S. McCullough Excavating, LLC and Civil Engineering Consultants, with help from utilities and city departments. Greencastle hopes to work on the railroad crossing during the Spring of 2018.
