Surrounded by muddy machinery, Greencastle Cemetery Board members announced at their Tuesday meeting that a Memorial Day 5k run will benefit the Forest Hill Cemetery beautification effort. The meeting was held in the Forest Hill Cemetery offices. Memorial Day is May 28. The announcement was made by Jason Keeney, assistant superintendent.

The beginning and end of the race will have a unique twist, said Feeney.  “The Army has the howitzer cannons to use for our start/finish line.”

There is a “by donation only” fee because people are more willing to donate in larger quantities if there is not a set fee.  The event will be staffed by board members as well as local EMTs and firefighters to aid and maintain safety regulations.

In addition to the 5K, this meeting covered more information about the pollinator gardens and the four price quotes the board has gotten from the city of Greencastle. Members added that the new plants would be arranged on the covered bridge to add in the beauty of the cemetery.
