First faculty meeting of academic year

  • Faculty remembrances were given for Clinton Burke Gass and Byron W. “Bill” Daynes.
  • President Brian Casey thanked the faculty for support in setting up the institution well financially and with initiatives such as the inclusion report and DePauw Health.
  • Casey also discussed admission goals, centering around reaching revenue targets for the class of 2020. Casey puts trust in Vice President for Admission and Financial Aid, Cindy Babington.
  • President Casey pointed out that Indiana University and Purdue University have frozen undergrad tuition, thus, it is unlikely the University will be able to raise tuition at the rate it has been increasing.
  • Casey, with the help of the Board of Trustees looks to continue to raise the endowment in order to engage more resources as the University continues to grow.
  • Plans for a new library are coming to life. Vice President of Academic Affairs, Anne Harris looks for this space to continue the academic tradition at DePauw.
  • Conversations will continue about the implications of the international experience and power privilege and diversity requirements under the general education requirements that were voted in last spring.
  • Upon conclusion of the meeting, the faculty were asked to convene in groups to discuss the qualities they would like to see DePauw’s next president employ, which will be passed along to the Presidential Search Committee.
