With spooky season nearing its end, you might find yourself seriously disappointed by the number of horror movies you’ve watched this October. 

If you’re thinking about cramming a few flicks in before Halloweekend is over, consider these suggestions.

For reference, I, a girl scared of literally everything, spent the first part of October screening scary movies of my choice. Here are my thoughts on my top five.

“It Chapter One”

Horror Rating: 7/10

If you enjoy a galore of creepy images and have a thing for killer clowns,” It Chapter One” is the movie that should top your spooky list. 

“It Chapter One” is about seven children in a small town in Maine who face the terrifying shapeshifting clown Pennywise over the course of their summer vacation. This movie will send chills rolling down your spine with its jump scares and Pennywise’s terrifying abilities. “It” might leave you questioning whether you should add clowns to your list of new phobias.

“Happy Death Day” and “Happy Death Day 2U”

Horror Rating: 4/10

If you’re a beginner to the horror genre and prefer comedies, “Happy Death Day” and “Happy Death Day 2U” is the perfect movie duo for you.

“Happy Death Day” tells the story of a self-centered collegian, Tree Gelbman, who becomes stuck in a vicious loop of living and dying on her birthday. She is eft to her own devices to figure out who her killer is in order to escape the loop. 

In the sequel “Happy Death Day 2U,” Tree finds herself stuck in the same loop, but in a different dimension and must find her way back to her own dimension.

Dark humor is aplenty in these films, and Tree’s death sequences will have you laughing all Halloween.

“Scream”

Horror Rating: 8/10

If you’re a beginner to slasher films in the horror genre and have no idea whether to start, my advice to you for this Halloween is to watch the first installment of the “Scream” series.

“Scream” is a modern horror classic where a frightening masked knife maniac stalks high school students in middle-class suburbia. In particular, this maniac pursues Sidney Prescott throughout the movie and fails to catch her. The ending of this movie is what will really shock you. It shows you must to be careful who you trust and seek comfort in.

“Little Monsters”

Horror Rating: 6/10

If you enjoy a great zombie flick and are helplessly in love with Lupita Nyong’o, “Little Monsters” is a great choice for you this Halloween.

“Little Monsters” follows the story of a washed-up musician, a preschool teacher and a children’s TV show host attempting to protect a group of young children from a sudden outbreak of zombies. This comedic horror film will leave you wishing you had a preschool teacher who would protect you like Lupita does.

“Alien”

Horror Rating: 9/10

If you love sci-fi movies, love the thrill of suspense and are tired of watching Jurassic Park over and over, “Alien” will give you your sci-fi fill this Halloween. 

Deep in space, the crew of the commercial spaceship Nostromo is awakened from their cryo-sleep halfway through their journey home to investigate a distress call from an alien vessel. 

During this call, the crew encounters a nest of eggs inside the alien vessel and the horror comes once an alien is unleashed on the ship. 

“Alien” will have you jumping, covering your eyes and screaming while taking you on the thrill ride of a lifetime during this cinematic masterpiece.
