DePauw University women’s lacrosse opened their season at Reavis Stadium on Feb. 16 and fell to the Rockhurst University Hawks 3-13. Their record on the season falls to 0-1.

Rockhurst was first to get on the board with two goals, but they were quickly answered by sophomore Sarah Ramsey and junior Rachel Allen. The game remained tied until the end of the first half when the Hawks scored three more unanswered goals.

The second half did not fare better for the Tigers as Rockhurst quickly scored another four goals in the first five and a half minutes of the second half. Junior Olivia Miller added the third goal for the Tigers, but it would not be enough to spark a comeback.

First-year Kathryn Hopkins kept the Hawks from extending the lead with 15 saves in her first collegiate game.

The Tiger’s defense had issues clearing the ball only managing to clear 37 percent. The team also turned over 44 ball control opportunities.

Rockhurst picked up 46 ground balls to DePauw’s 25. The Hawks also outscored the Tigers 35 to 6.

The women will travel to Centre College on Feb. 25 for their next game.
