Sam Kramer, a junior midfielder from Carmel, IN, netted a game winning goal in overtime against Hanover College to secure a win for the men’s soccer team in their home opener on Friday, Aug. 31. Kramer belted a shot from beyond the box into the lower left hand corner of the net with 1:38 left in OT. It was the first golden-goal victory for the Tigers since 2015.
“It was a big win for the team,” Kramer said. “It’s only the first game of the season so we are still trying to figure things out. The game really came down to who wanted it more, and our side proved to be that team.”
Kramer had two shots on net throughout the night, with the one in overtime being the most pivotal. Overall the Tigers outshot Hanover 8-7.
“The morale was very high after the game, hopefully this carries on into the next one and more importantly the rest of the season,” Kramer said.
Last season as a sophomore, Kramer notched three goals and one assist. He made 16 appearances throughout the season, starting in six of them.
On campus, Kramer participates in several organizations. Kramer is a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity along with being the leader of the Morael Committee for the Riley Dance Marathon. He is also a representative for the Make Good Decisions committee.
Kramer is majoring in Communications with a minor in Business Administration. He notes that DePauw’s well rounded environment was key for him in to choosing a four-year college.
Kramer states,“DePauw is a great experience because you can play a sport you love, compete for a national title, join a fraternity, all on top of a great education."
