Tiger of the Week: Liv Hartman
- Hometown: Indianapolis, IN
- Grade: Junior
- Major: Kinesiology
Junior Liv Hartman was named North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Volleyball Athlete of the Week due in part to her 24 kills against Denison University on Sept. 22, guiding the Tigers to a 3-1 win in a pivotal conference matchup.
The DePauw: What does this NCAC award mean to you?
Liv Hartman: Getting this award makes me want to work even harder in the gym. I am so happy to be a part of such a successful program and I can’t wait to see what this season holds.
TDP: What training during the off-season would you contribute to your success?
LH: Our team has 6 a.m. lifts three days a week where we get stronger and continue to work on our jump training and endurance.
TDP: What are your expectations for this season?
LH: I expect our team to contend for the conference championship. We have a lot of resiliency this year that I think will take us far. We have made the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament the last two years and are training to make it again.
TDP: What does your daily regimen consist of when it comes to balancing school and volleyball?
LH: Balancing academics and athletics is a constant struggle. It pushes me to get my homework done in advance and to study for tests more intensely. I do my homework on the bus when we travel and make sure to utilize my professor’s office hours.
TDP: What does it mean to be an athlete at DePauw?
LH: Being a student athlete at DePauw allows me to be part of something a lot bigger than myself. Adversity is an important life skill that I have learned from being on a team at DePauw. It is such a life-shaping experience and I’ve only grown and become a better person from it.
