The Presidential Profile was released to the DePauw community on Sunday evening in an email from Kathy Patterson Vrabeck ’85 on behalf of the search committee. The Presidential Profile will be used by both the committee and the search firm Isaacson, Miller, in coming conversations with candidates.
The document is subtitled, “DePauw is a place where intellectual challenge and the life of the campus combine students for a lifetime of leadership and achievement.”
The email explained the search to be operating on time and the search committee still expects the selection process for DePauw’s 20th President will conclude in early spring. Due to confidentiality of all candidates, communication during the coming phases is expected to be limited.
The profile is broken down into sections entitled: The Search, DePauw University, THE PRESIDENT, Leadership Opportunities and Challenges.
The Search
The search section states that the next president will gather the DePauw community “Around an ambitious vision for DePauw’s future.” These duties will include serving as an advocate and ambassador for the University, foster short and long-term goals and effective management, including expansion of University resources including active participation in the ongoing capital campaign.
DePauw University
The DePauw University section of the profile is composed of multiple subsections: Enrollment and Student Life, Faculty, Alumni, Board Governance, DePauw 2020: The Plan for DePauw, Finances, The Campaign for DePauw, Campus and Greencastle Location. Each highlights the characteristics unique to DePauw including, the Timothy and Sharon Ubben lecture series, the significant presence of Greek life, athletics and distinguished alumni.
The outline of DePauw 2020 includes emphasizing learning at DePauw, teaching at DePauw, coming to DePauw, living at DePauw, connecting with DePauw and working at DePauw.
The Campaign for DePauw also includes “A $300 million comprehensive fundraising campaign that seeks support for the University’s academic programs, financial aid efforts, student preparation programs and an array of campus improvements.”
THE PRESIDENT
The profile outlines the job and accomplishments of The University's 19th President Brian W. Casey. “The president is an ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees, presides at key university functions, and represents the university before the public.”
LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES
According to the profile, the next president will be expected to lead DePauw in continual improvement with focuses on select opportunities and challenges.
The challenges stated in the profile include, uniting DePauw, enhancing the academic profile and fostering an inclusive community among many others.
QUALIFICATIONS
Additionally, essential qualifications include vision for the University's highest goals, to be an inspirational leader, a successful administrator, commitment to the liberal arts as well as to diversity, and an exercised ability to maintain and improve an organization’s profile on local and international levels. The last of the qualifications include, “energy, integrity, and a sense of humor.”
