The Board of Trustees arrived on campus Thursday for their typical Old Gold visit.

Members of The Board of Trustees are largely DePauw Alumni, but not all members are DePauw Alumni. Vice President of Student Life, Christopher Wells describes some of the criteria for a member is to demonstrate a love and support for DePauw as well as engagement with the University and its mission.

Members of the Board can serve up to four, four-year terms, for a total of 16 years in a voting position. The board is divided into three tiers of trustees, the voting board members, advisory trustees (non-voting) and the life trustees (non-voting). Once a member no longer holds a voting position, they can be considered for one of the longer-term positions that does not have voting power.

In short, according to Wells, the main purpose of The Board of Trustees includes fiduciary and strategic oversight. They select the university president as well as advise and offer support for the senior administration.

The Board of Trustees has a wide reach across the University assisting in matters from recruiting and fundraising to alumni engagement.

“Trustees are all volunteers,” said Wells. “[They] are donating their time, energy and expertise to the university.”
