The men’s track and field team finished third behind Wabash College and Rose-Hulman Technical Institute at the DePauw Indoor Invitational Feb. 10. The team finished with 97 points.
The Tigers shined in the 5,000m run as senior Polo Burgete finished in first place (15:05.20), with junior Paul Christian in fifth (15:51.06). Those three finishes tallied 22 of the total points that DePauw University ended with.
The Tigers also dominated the mile run with a second and third place finish by junior Zach Batt (4:.22.87) and sophomore Cole Martin (4:23.90). Sophomore Kyle Munz also added to the long distance achievements by placing third in the 3,000m (8:59.71).
The third place finish was again supplemented by the men’s teams sprinters such as a sixth place finish by junior Chase Wright in the 60m dash (7.26) and the 200m run (23.34) and an eighth place finish by sophomore Luke Patty (23.48).
In the field events, the Tigers also showed their strengths as senior Nate Baker placed sixth in the weight throw with a throw of 14.16m, and also a ninth place finish in the shot put with a 12.43m shot. Tyler Nemeth also added to the field category with an eighth place finish in the pole vaulting event with a vault of 3.90m.
At the end of the meet, individual runners came together for the team events. DePauw’s 4x200 team finished second with a time of 1.33.25. The distance medley team took the fourth spot with a time of 11:37.67. Finally, to end the meet, the 4x400 team landed the sixth spot with a time of 3:43.39.
Finishing third gives DePauw men’s team their second third place finish of the year from the three meets they have competed in, the other being a second place finish.
The Tigers will be back in action when they host The DePauw Classic on Feb. 17 at 11 a.m.
