The DePauw University men’s track and field team finished in first place with 104 points, beating out two conference competitors in Wittenberg University and Wabash College on Feb. 17.
The men’s 200m dash was dominated by the Tigers as sophomore Luke Patty won the event (23.13), closely followed by junior Chase Wright (23.14), and sophomore Jordan Booker in third place (23.34). Rounding out the event was first-year Satchel Oskins (23.46) in sixth place. These top finishes totaled 26 points for the Tigers.
Another standout event for DePauw was the 3000m run. Senior Polo Burguete finished in first place (8:40.53). The Tigers had a strong pack following Burguete led by sophomore Cole Martin (8:43.03) in third, junior Zach Batt (8:46.28) in fourth and junior Paul Christian (8:47.31) in fifth. These strong finishes combined for 25 points.
The team saw solid contributions in the 5000m run with sixth and eighth place finishes by first-year standouts Samuel Meyer (16:25.94) and Aaron Worley (16:48.96), respectively.
The team’s first place finish was solidified with the help of a second place finish by sophomore Jordan Booker in the 400m dash (51.83), first-year Lucas Coleman in the 1000m run with a first place finish (3:03.84) and a fifth place finish in the 4x400-meter relay (3:55.67).
In the field events, the team performed well with junior Tyler Nemeth finishing second in the pole vaulting event with a vault of 3.95m. Another contributor was first-year Jarrod Stiver with a sixth place finish in the long jump event, jumping 6.12m. In the weight throw, the Tigers saw strong performances from senior Andrew Saunders with a fifth place finish (14.19m) and senior Nate Baker (14.12m).
The men’s performance this past weekend was strong in preparation for their competition against conference foe Wabash College in two weeks.
The Tigers will compete Feb. 24 in the Fred Wilt Invitational at Anderson University at 3 p.m.
