The Tigers took on Franklin College last Wednesday at Carrol Stadium, home to the Indy Eleven. The match was in partnership with Indy Eleven. DePauw defeated the Grizzlies 4-1.
DePauw came out firing in the match. Senior midfielder Taras Tataryn scored his first two goals of the season within the opening 20 minutes of the game. Senior midfielder Peter White and junior midfielder Justin Mitchell both tallied a goal and an assist, both their firsts of the season.
Despite the large lead, the Tigers were not able to get the clean sheet, as the Grizzlies finished a penalty kick late in the second half.
“I am happy with how the team played. We were able to work together and get some really nice team goals,” Tataryn said.
The win brought DePauw to 2-1-1 on the season. The Tigers head into a tough clash with Centre College on Saturday, a game that would be a different story for them.
This was their first meeting since defeating the Colonels in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last November.
The first half was a battle with both teams getting good looks at goal. Centre College found a breakthrough with a goal in the 38th minute. Unfortunately, the Tigers were not able to level the score before the floodgates opened for Centre.
In the second half, the Colonels scored three goals in a 15-minute span and the match ended 4-0. The loss brought the Tigers to 2-2-1 on the season.
“Our improvement comes as we extend our ability to hold the ball. When we get careless and impatient we get into trouble,” Hauter said. “I'm very interested in seeing our continued growth and development as we head into conference play. We still have some questions to answer and this week gives us the chance to finalize those answers.”
DePauw takes on Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Wednesday at Reavis Stadium at 7p.m.
