If all the posters and emails haven't tipped you off to the fact that Old Gold is this weekend, let this be your wakeup call. As part of the festivities, there will be a live performance from DePauw’s own Kid Quill.
Kid Quill, also known as DePauw senior Mitch Brown, is breaking into his dream music career even before he graduates this spring. Brown describes himself as a lyrical mix between Macklemore and Mac Miller, and despite seriously pursuing music for only a year and a half, Brown has already made groundbreaking success on the national level.
On Saturday, he will perform for those he knows best in a place he knows best – his peers at DePauw.
“I usually don’t get nervous for shows, but this one I’m very, extremely, nervous for,” said Brown. “The preparation time going into it is way more, we’re taking a lot more risks, especially with DePauwCappella. And we’re doing other things with organizations on campus that we’re throwing together last minute. So there’s going to be a lot of risk, and I’m nervous because it’s my peers. It’s going to be weird to look out and see people I know.”
The concert will be held in the plaza of the athletics campus at 6 p.m. after the football game against Wittenberg. Brown will perform solo and will also be joined by DePauwCapella. The group will perform a song alongside Brown, and a select number of members will remain on stage afterwards to do a medley with Brown.
Brown will be giving out special-edition Kid Quill cups at the tailgate, as well as throwing them into the crowd along with personalized t-shirts during the concert.
As if free music and t-shirts are not enough to lure college students to an event, free food from Almost Home, Anthony’s Pizzeria and more will also be given out.
