The women’s volleyball team is finally starting to hit their stride, after improving to 8-4 this Tuesday against Rose-Hulman. They blanked the Engineers 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-19) at home—their last game until they open up their conference season against Allegheny.
“There was a great atmosphere from all the fans and players,” said sophomore Ellie Locke, who is a Tiger Sports Nation anchor and attendee of the game Tuesday. “The team started off strong and demonstrated great communication skills—from setting points to reassuring their teammates after they would mess up,” Locke continued.
“I think they knew they were going to win from the start,” she said.
Senior Lauren Falotico led the team with 11 kills on the night, with Wilson following close behind with nine. Setter Faith Rolwes assisted 33 of the Tiger’s dominating 45 kills. Senior Keely McGrath led the team defensive with 14 digs—and crossed the final threshold to become DePauw’s all-time dig leader.
The game was about more than volleyball this week though: it was the Tigers’ annual Dig Pink game to raise money and awareness for breast cancer.
“The atmosphere was undeniably energetic and supportive,” said avid supporter of the volleyball team sophomore Kienne Coram. “The team as well as the fans showed up to promote breast cancer awareness and fought to win against Rose-Hulman.”
The Tigers face off against Allegheny in their first conference game of the season—and the beginning of their quest for a third straight showing in the NCAA tournament. The game will be played today at Allegheny, starting at 7 p.m.
