Women's Golf: Tigers conclude NCAA Div. III Championships in fifth place

Weather forced the cancellation of the final round of the NCAA Div. III Championships Friday, sending the top-seeded women's golf team to a fifth-place finish overall. The Tigers finished the three-round tournament with a team score of 997.

Methodist University (N.C.) claimed its 12th-straight NCAA Div. III title with a team score of 966. Gustavus Adolphus College finished second with a score of 978 while Illinois Wesleyan University scored 991 points to take third. The tournament was played at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

Junior Taylor Beaty and freshman Paige Gooch recorded the Tigers' highest three-round finishes, tying for 14th at 247. Sophomore Camila Romero tied for 26th with a score of 251, while junior Kelly Gaughan tied for 37th at 255 and senior Natalie Gough scored 256 to tie for 41st.

DePauw opened the tournament in fourth place on Tuesday, as Romero led the squad with a score of 80. The Tigers were tied for fourth after scoring a 335 in Wednesday's second round.

The Tigers made their 10th-straight trip to the NCAA Div. III Championships after finishing sixth overall at last year's tournament. The squad also captured its second-straight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament earlier this season. Gooch was named SCAC Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year after taking medalist honors at the tournament.
