Women’s golf turned in another solid two-day outing with a second place finish in the Dan Quayle Collegiate Classic this past weekend.

Originally called the DePauw Small College Classic, the tournament has always given the Tigers a home course advantage.

The Tigers scored 319 the first day, finishing in second behind Wittenberg with both Sewanee and Huntington close behind by one stroke.

While DePauw was never able to catch Wittenberg, the program was able to put distance between themselves and the two other teams, finishing ahead of both of them by over 10 points.

“We managed to stay ahead of everyone else, which is very important,” said head coach Vince Lazar. “This is the third tournament in a row that [the team] showed significant improvement from the first round to second round.”

The Tigers were led by first-year Larisa Luloff who had a total score of 155.

Not far behind were sophomore Kharissa Carras and first-year Rachele Miller, who both scored 156 for the weekend.

“I enjoyed leading the team, but more than that I just enjoy being a part of it and giving my best every day,” said Luloff. “If that ends up being the best score of the day, so much the better.”

Along with seeing more strong outings from their first-years, the Tigers were also happy in their ability to finish ahead of Washington University, a program that won the tournament last season.

While the Tigers have seen promising results in all of their matches, the team is still looking to improve little by little in preparation for the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic this weekend.

“Lately we’ve been working on visualizing shots more and controlling our breathing in high stress situations,” said junior Sheinnera Gerongay. “We will continue to work on our mental game, and continue doing what we’re doing.”
