Friends, family, and alumni came out to Blackstock this past weekend to cheer on the Tigers for the annual Old Gold Game. Both teams were slow to score—an unusual occurrence for the Tigers, who have scored within the first five minutes of play-time in four out of five of the other games they’ve played this season. DePauw scored first, however, with just four minutes left in the first quarter. Joseph Sullivan ‘24 kicked a 24-yard field goal, putting DePauw ahead 3-0. The Tigers were quick to build on this lead as just minutes later, with 29 seconds left in the first, Gus Bumgartner ‘24 ran a one-yard touchdown, bringing the Tigers to 10-0 as they entered the second quarter.

Neither team scored in the second quarter, but Denison came close, driving to the 26-yard line. They were stopped, however, by Matt Coons ‘25, who intercepted Denison’s quarterback at the 17-yard line.

The Tigers made their final scoring-play of the game in the third quarter. Ethan Lowery ‘24 recovered a Denison fumble caused by Jake Comer. Caden Whitehead ‘26 then scored a three-yard touchdown just five plays later, bringing the score to 17-0.

Denison was able to avoid a shut-out. With just over a minute left in the game, they scored a touchdown, but missed the kick, making the final score 17-6.

This win extends the undefeated Tigers’ win streak to six games. DePauw Football is 6-0 overall and 4-0 for conference play. The team will travel to Ohio next weekend to take on Wooster (2-3 overall, 1-2 in conference) Saturday afternoon.
