This past weekend, the DePauw women’s lacrosse team traveled to North Central College and Carthage College for a pair of matchups. The Tigers were able to split their two games, pulling off a win against North Central 19-9, and falling to Carthage 10-12. In both games, the Tigers were led by senior midfielder Emilye Denny, who contributed a game-high four goals against North Central, as well as another goal against Carthage. Denny’s strong pair of performances helped her earn Tiger of the Week honors.

The DePauw: How does it feel to start the season 2-1? What are some of the things your team has done well to start the season?

Emilye Denny: It feels great to start off strong this season. We have worked really hard this preseason and put in a lot of time and energy, so it's great to be 2-1 right now. The flow of our game has been improving with each game, and even when we are down we never give up. We play to the whistle. I am very proud to be a part of this team.

TDP: Your team was down 11-5 against Carthage on Sunday, what was going through your head and what helped start the comeback for the team?

ED: Honestly, at first I wasn't thinking very good thoughts about the way I was playing personally, but then I thought about how hard my teammates were running and fighting for ground balls. After thinking about who I’m really play for, I started playing for my teammates instead of myself. Ultimately, I think that helped our team catch up and end with only a 2-point deficit.

TDP: What are your expectations going into Saturday as you start conference play against Wittenberg?

ED: My expectations for our performance are high for this Saturday. Yes, Wittenberg is always a solid team, but we are also solid this year and I think we have more heart than any team in our conference. I am positive we can pull out our first conference win this weekend.

TDP: What are your goals for the team this season?

ED: Our goals are to make it to the conference tournament, beat our opponent in ground balls in 80 percent of our games and also maintain our dean's list status as a team.

TDP: How did you first start getting involved in lacrosse? What is your favorite thing about the sport?

ED: I moved to Carmel in seventh grade and decided to pick up a new sport. I thought lacrosse looked cool, so I picked up a stick and never looked back. My favorite things about lacrosse is learning new stick tricks and catching those high passes people don't expect me to catch because I'm pretty short. My nickname on the team is "jumping shrimp."

Denny, and the rest of the DePauw women’s lacrosse team will continue their season as they open conference play against Wittenberg University at Reavis Stadium on Saturday, March 25. The game is slated to start at noon.
