Last Sunday, March 3, Sigma Chi Fraternity and Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority paired for the second annual MS Walk. The walk, beginning last year as a philanthropy event, began in support of the mother of Brentton Campbell, a graduated brother of Sigma Chi. Now it has gained notable popularity with an entire day organized around a simple 1.5-mile walk. Theta philanthropy coordinator Tara Holder ‘25 said, “Our house mom, Tracy Knuckles, also suffers from MS so the cause was near to our hearts.” With a notable cause for both houses, the pairing was due.

Muscular Sclerosis (MS) is a neurodegenerative disorder that occurs when the myelination around neurons degenerates. While the cause is not known the symptoms can range widely depending on each unique case. This leads to progressive motor impairments which is why organizations and groups around the world began hosting walks and runs for MS. The message is often walking for those who can’t.

Holder explained the houses joined to sell wristbands, shoelaces, and ribbons to raise awareness for the disease as well as the event between the houses. After the 1.5-mile walk which started and ended at Sigma Chi, food was served which, in total, raised over $2600. This sum is more than triple last year’s total.

With amazing food, weather, and attendance from the members of both houses, various students, faculty, and alumni the event was a success.
