The DePauw men's basketball team earned its fourth consecutive win after knocking off Earlham College, 77-65, on the road Wednesday night.
The Tigers (4-1) got off to a slow start as they fell behind the Quakers 7-0 in the opening minutes. The team rallied back and only trailed by one point at the half. However, DePauw picked up their play in the second half and was able to outscore the Quakers by 13 points.
"We were better in the second half, but I thought we had poor attention to detail and a poor job probably by me preparing the guys for the game," head coach Bill Fenlon said. "It's a team that on paper you'd think we were better than, but we didn't come out and play like we were better than them."
Freshman guard Adam Botts led the team with a career high 17 points. Botts was also solid from the line, making nine out of his ten free throw shots.
"He didn't turn it over, and he made some shots when we needed them," Fenlon said. "He was also the guy who made a bunch of free throws at the end. I thought he had a really good performance and he's going to be a really good player for us."
Overall, the team displayed balanced scoring against the Quakers as four players scored in double figures. Senior Barry Flynn posted a double-double with 14 rebounds and 15 points. Guards Michael Wilkison and Connor Rich also added 16 and 15 points apiece. Rich also hit back-to-back three's late in the game to push the score to 64-57 and put the Tigers up for good.
"I think a real strength of the team is that we have a lot of depth and different guys who can do things in different ways and in different times," Fenlon said. "I don't think we're anywhere close to being a one or two guy dependent team."
DePauw will look to continue its winning streak when it hosts conference opponent Kenyon College (3-2) on Saturday.
