New Breath In The Air: Fall Break Activities for Students on Campus

350

As Fall season approaches with cool breezes and rustling yellow leaves on the way to class each morning, something else exciting is on the way as well: Fall Break! After wrapping up midterms, do not forget to take some time off to rest and do some interesting activities around Greencastle. Whether you plan to go back home or on an out-of-state trip, enjoy your well-deserved break to the fullest! In the case you’re staying at DePauw and want to make the most of your week, here are some suggestions from us for your Fall Break to-do list.

Take a walk to DePauw Nature Park

Located at 1400 West County Road 125 South, the Nature Park is a gorgeous 520-acre park of forests, wildlife and a tranquil lake. Wandering around over 10 miles of trails through the wood can offer you a ‘wild’ variety of activity options. Listen to the birds singing, explore trees changing into fall or winding down by the lake. To complete the trip, you can also drop by the lively Ullem Campus Farm during harvest celebration time or The Prindle Institute for Ethics for a cozy social spot.

Strike at 3G Bowling!

Looking for a place to have fun either by yourself or with your friend groups at no cost? Head over to 3G Bowl at 1250 South Jackson Street for thrilling lanes, vibrant music and extensive food selections from their impressive menus. The coolest part is that with a DePauw ID, except for food and drinks, you can enjoy this bowling experience at no extra charge!

Support local shops and restaurants

In case the school year has been so busy that you cannot find time to eat outside Hoover, this one week off is a perfect opportunity to explore and support your local businesses, especially restaurants. A quick five-minute walk may take you to a warm loaf of bread from BreadWorks, Mexican dishes at Don Julio, or some grab-and-go special goods from the newly established Bodega. If you have the time and energy for a longer walk, definitely swing by Tokyo Steak of Japan for a mouth-watering bowl of ramen or No. 1 Chinese Restaurant to try their delicious menu.

Check out list of October events

Do not miss out on some of the exciting October events happening around DePauw and Greencastle to make the most of your time off. A great resource is Eventbrite and CampusLabs to keep track of activities happening around. Also, following the Instagram accounts of the school organizations for updates is a great choice.

No matter how you choose to spend your week off, there are always plenty of options to choose from. Whether you’re looking to explore local events, enjoy the beauty of Fall season or spend time with people you love, take this chance to unwind and dive into the Fall Break.
