Seven different players for the Men’s lacrosse team scored on their way to an 11-1 victory over Kalamazoo College on a snow covered field on Saturday.

Sophomore Steen Jorgenson started the game off with a goal of 8:22 remaining in the first quarter. Senior Adam Bridges and sophomore Austin MacDonald followed Jorgenson’s path with goals to end the first quarter with a 3-0 lead.

“It’s always important to jump out to a quick lead,” Joe Garvey, sophomore midfielder said. “We knew we were the better team so it was huge for us to grab the early lead.”

Junior Ben Sherman hit the first of his three goals of the afternoon within a minute of the second quarter off of Jorgenson’s assist. Bridges then scored his second goal of the game with 11:21 remaining in the second, and senior Sam Alkena closed the half with another goal to give the Tigers a 6-0 lead headed into halftime.

The third quarter felt a lot like the first two quarters when Ben Sherman scored the second and third goals of his hat trick with 11:11 and 5:30 left to go in the quarter. Sophomore Nate Greenburg snuck in a goal with only five seconds remaining on the clock to close out another 3-0 quarter and increase the lead to 9-0.

“It was pretty much total domination,” first-year midfielder Myles Thompson said. “We were hitting on all cylinders and it felt great to be a part of.”

After another Jorgenson goal, Kalamazoo finally scored their first goal of the game when Clapton Marquis hit a shot with 9:51 left. First-year Jack Richey responded with another DePauw goal 43 seconds later.

“We have a lot of potential with this team,” Garvey said. “Saturday showed that we can win some games this year, and I think we’re all excited to get after it.”

First-year Charlie Robson recorded his first collegiate win as goalie after stopping eight shots. DePauw held the total shot advantage 34-21. This also served as head coach Dan Ambrose’s first victory under the helm at DePauw. Thompson thinks Ambrose has shown that he is going to take this program in the right direction.

“He’s a great coach,” Thompson said. “If we remain coachable and listen to what him and the rest of the staff have to say, we will continue to get better. The sky's the ceiling under his leadership.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday when they host Calvin College at 1 p.m.
