IFC to sell greek life with BBQ

With fall semester in full swing, the Interfraternity Council hopes to stir up interest in greek life with a barbecue.

IFC has organized events in the past with aims to pass out recruitment and membership information to unaffiliated and freshmen men.

This year, they plan to use the barbecue to build interactions with unaffiliated upperclassman and freshman men.  IFC president Mitch Turnbow said the advertising for this year's event was much improved from past years.

"It's definitely the first time it's been advertised as well as it has and has been put into place as early as it has," Turnbow said.

All 10 IFC fraternity chapters will have designated tables and representatives present.

"There's not a chance that we can get every member of the house out there, and that's what we'd like, but as far as I know every chapter is planning on having some sort of representation on Saturday," Turnbow said.

Greek life coordinator Eric Wolfe hopes the setting will facilitate conversation about greek life. Interactions between freshmen and greek members are encouraged at the barbecue.

Junior Jud Strong, the organizer of the barbecue, hopes it will help freshmen know more about greek life at DePauw and feel more comfortable to join the chapters during formal recruitment second semester.

IFC will stay in contact with the men that are interested in greek life. They plan to hold more events this semester. The barbecue will be at Bowman Park this coming Saturday from 2 — 4 p.m.
