The men’s and women’s golf teams finished Sunday’s North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) championships in seventh and second place with scores of 1,276 and 1,338, respectively.

The men’s team competed first and finished its final round at 319. Sophomore Andrew Derringer led the Tigers, tied at 11th with a score of 308 after shooting a 76 in the final round. Derringer was also awarded second team all-NCAC honors.

He was happy with how he improved throughout the year after receiving second team all-conference honors.

“My game progressed nicely towards the end of the season,” Derringer said. “I had good practice habits that allowed my game to grow over the past months.”

Junior Quinn Smith scored a 78 on Sunday, which totaled his score at 317 and placed him 24th overall. Senior Drake Dunaway finished 31st with an overall score of 326 after shooting an 82 on Sunday. First-years Sam Karcher and Josh Krutchik scored an 83 and 85, respectively, after not competing in the opening two rounds.

Karcher thought the season ended on a disappointing note.

“We showed signs of being a good team this year but just fell flat in the conference, which was very disappointing,” Karcher said.

Looking to next year, the only player the team will graduate is Dunaway.

“His leadership impacted me in a great way," Derringer said. "He was the core of the team and will be greatly missed next year."

The women scored a final round of 333 to finish behind third-ranked Wittenberg, who scored a 1,280. The team was paced by third-place finisher Larisa Luloff at 316, who earned first team all-NCAC along with Rachele Miller.

“We got really strong performances by [them]," said Head Coach Vince Lazar. "They are both freshmen, too."

Miller finished fifth with a score of 331. Sheinnera Gerongay scored a 345 following Sunday’s 86, while Danielle Smith placed 12th at 351 following Sunday’s 90. Kenzie Westerfeld wrapped up the lineup with a weekend score of 181 after not competing in the first two rounds.

The NCAA will release the field for the Division III golf playoffs, but it is unlikely for either team to make the field as an at-large bid.
