In a statement written by the four DePauw football captains and approved by interim head coach Scott Srnka, senior captain Bobby Coburn spoke to members of the media at Blackstock Stadium on Monday afternoon. He and his fellow captains addressed the dismissal of former head coach Robby Long and the appointment of Srnka to the interim head coaching position.

Coburn recited the statement off of his phone while standing by senior captains Christopher Lamping and Cody Crook and junior Patrick Keller.

He began by stating Long supported each and every one of his players, and the team wishes him well.

"We will always stand behind DePauw University and our president, Brian Casey, and trust that he and Mrs. Baker-Watson did their due diligence in making this decision," Coburn said.

After, he spoke about Srnka and stated the team's belief in his coaching abilities. Srnka was a defensive coordinator for his alma-mater - Rhodes College - for 17 years before coming to DePauw last season. This is Srnka's first head football coaching position.

The captains did not take questions after the statement, stating their desire to move on.
