On Sept. 1 at 1 p.m. at Reavis Stadium, the DePauw women’s soccer team kicked off their first home game of the season against Greenville. The Tigers delivered an exciting performance, thrilling fans with a hard-fought 2-1 victory.

The afternoon weather was bright and sunny, matching the heat of the competition on the field and the energy in the stands. DePauw struck first, with Sadie Gibson ‘26 scoring in the opening half to put the Tigers ahead. Just 10 minutes into the second half, Greenville equalized, tying the score at 1-1. From then on, the pace of the game quickened. Both teams fought for possession, traded attacks and pressed for shots on goal.

The decisive moment came late in the second half, when Katherine Lacy ‘28 netted the winning goal, sending DePauw’s bench and crowd into celebration.

The audience responded with constant applause throughout the match, cheering not only for goals but also for near misses. Among the fans was Karen Grenda, grandmother of Elle Lewis ‘26, who shared, “I guess I like when they do the kicks, if there is a goalie kick or a penalty kick, those are fun to watch. But really, I like all of it. We try to make all the games that we can.”

Grenda loved the upbeat atmosphere. She shared, “No one’s a bad sport. And it’s very nice that we can get in without paying - most colleges charge admission for sports, so this feels very welcoming.”

Afterward, players, coaches, families, and friends celebrated together with fresh food and drinks. DePauw’s win helped build strong energy for the games ahead.
