What do these people have in common?
They all have or will be appearing at DePauw.
In any given day on DePauw University's campus, students have the opportunity to take in a variety of events.
What is unique about all these events is that each one is free for the students and open to everyone in the community.
Singer Bobby McFerrin will be here on Tuesday. It will cost the students nothing to attend his concert. The following Sunday, he is scheduled to appear at Merrill Auditorium in Portland, Maine. The tickets for this event cost from $51 to $76 according to PortTIX.
The McFerrin concert is not only free to students, but also for children under 12 and senior citizens. For the rest of the community, tickets are $10 in advance and $15 the day of the event.
The editorial board asks, how many events do our students and the community take advantage of?
DePauw University is a liberal arts college. Students are expected to receive an intellectual and cultural education across academic disciplines and engage in all facets of campus life.
DePauw pays good money to bring a variety of guests to campus. Students should take advantage of these special events because when they graduate these free opportunities will be gone.
We are all here to receive a broad education, and this extends beyond the classroom, the organizations we are involved in and our social groups.
Tonight Chanticleer will perform in Cincinnati, Ohio. Tickets cost $38. DePauw students can see them perform for free Saturday night.
Will you be there?
