Bill Lynch, current associate director of athletics at Butler University and former Indiana University football head coach for three seasons, is among four final candidates for DePauw's vacant position of head football coach.
In an email sent to faculty Sunday morning by Pam Propsom - professor of psychology and one of two faculty members on the head coach search committee - the potential coaches are scheduled to visit campus Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
The other three candidates are Tucker Waugh '93, a recruiting coordinator and running backs coach at the United States Military Academy, Christopher Wilkerson, special teams coordinator and recruiting coordinator at Dartmouth College and Stephen Bell, head football coach at Monmouth College.
DePauw intends to announce a hire by early January.
Lynch, 58, a former head football coach for the Tigers, left DePauw in 2004 after leading the Tigers to an 8-2 record. Including Lynch, the DePauw football program has seen five different head coaches in the past eight years.
Lynch resigned to take an assistant coach/offensive coordinator/tight ends coaching position at Indiana under head coach, Terry Hoeppner. Lynch assumed the head coaching position at IU when Hoeppner died in June, 2007. He was fired in 2010 in the third year of his four-year contract by IU athletic director Fred Glass after going 19-30 over four seasons as head coach.
He has 32 total seasons of coaching experience in Indiana, including stops at Butler University and Ball State University.
Waugh, 41, graduated from DePauw in 1993 and was a two-year letterman as quarterback for the Tigers football team. Through his three years DePauw compiled a 18-10-2 record including a 1-1-1 Monon Bell record under head coach, Nick Mourouzis.
Waugh graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English composition and physical education, then went on to coach at Otterbein College, as well as one year at DePauw. In 2000, he joined the coaching staff of Army for four years as a wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator, and then coached at Stanford University for two years under head coach Walt Harris.
After two seasons coaching the Stanford Cardinal, he returned to Army to hold his previous positions. In five seasons, he's helped Div. I FBS Army to a 20-41 record, but also its first winning season since 1996 - a 7-6, 2010 campaign that also saw the program's first bowl win in 25 years.
Wilkerson, 40, is the current special teams coordinator, associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at Div. I FCS Dartmouth. He's held those titles for the past three seasons, but has been at Dartmouth since 2005. In the past five seasons, the Big Green compiled a 19-31 record.
Wilkerson graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1995, and then served as an assistant coach for his Alma mater for six years. After, he coached at San José State University for three seasons.
Bell, 43, has been the head coach at Div. III Monmouth for the past 13 seasons. He displays a 98-36 overall record - the most wins in school history. Aside from his head coaching duties, he is an instructor in the physical education department and works in the development/fundraising department.
Bell graduated from Bemidji State University in 1995, then coached at MacMurray College for four seasons as offensive coordinator.
At Monmouth, he is a five-time Midwest Conference coach of the year, and has won the conference title four occasions. His team led Div. III in scoring 2008 and total offense in 2011.
