Dr. Mark McCoy announced Friday morning that Dr. Ayden Adler, former senior vice president and dean of the New World Symphony, America’s Orchestral Academy (NWS), will take his place as Dean of DePauw’s School of Music.

Dr. Adler has a liberal arts undergraduate degree, two masters, two doctorates and a background as a twenty-first century musician.

“She was so well prepared for this position,” McCoy said over email on Friday.

The search team considered candidates from around the country, and McCoy expressed that it was a competitive pool. Four finalists visited campus before the search team made the decision to ask Adler to fill the position.

“I am excited to build on the work of President-elect McCoy and the DePauw University School of Music to support students and faculty as they explore contemporary ways to engage and serve communities both inside and outside traditional arts environments," Adler told DePauw University.

The twelve-member search committee consisted of several School of Music faculty members, two students, two cabinet members, one trustee and four College of Liberal Arts faculty and staff members.

“I am going to miss being in this school every day but know it will be in incredibly capable hands,” McCoy said. “I look forward to the continued growth of the school and to working with Dr. Adler on the cabinet.”
