In an announcement on its Media Centre, the BBC confirmed the return of "Peaky Blinders" for two new series, which will be produced for the BBC in the United Kingdom and for Netflix internationally.

The new chapter, from original creator Steven Knight, will advance the saga into a new era. Set in Britain in 1953, the story will follow a new generation of the Shelby family as they navigate a city transformed. In the aftermath of the World War II blitz, Birmingham is undergoing a massive reconstruction, building a new future from "concrete and steel."

According to Netflix's Tudum site, the race to control this lucrative rebuilding effort will become a "brutal contest of mythical dimensions," placing the Shelbys at the heart of a city filled with both unprecedented opportunity and danger.

“I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the 'Peaky Blinders' story,” Knight said in a statement. “Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel, and it will be a hell of a ride.”

The sequel’s timeline will begin after the events of the upcoming film, "The Immortal Man." The movie is currently in post-production and stars Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby. While Murphy will not star in the new series, he will return as an executive producer.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be embarking on a new chapter of Peaky Blinders,” said Netflix's Mona Qureshi, a Netflix executive who will oversee the project for the streaming service. “There are few modern storytellers to match Steven Knight, and we will be on the edge of our seats as he returns to the streets of Birmingham.”

Lindsay Salt, director of BBC Drama, echoed the enthusiasm, calling the original a "game-changing show" that made a "huge impact." She added, "Steven has worked his magic once again, and I can’t wait for his scripts to be brought to life when filming begins in Birmingham."

Each of the two new seasons will consist of six episodes. While the cast for the new generation of Shelbys has not yet been announced, filming is set to take place at Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham.

For fans eager to revisit the original story, all six seasons of "Peaky Blinders" are currently available to stream on Netflix.
