On Thursday, Nov. 14, pop sensation Tate McRae made a huge announcement on Instagram: her third studio album “So Close to What” will be released on Feb. 21, 2025. On top of that, the accompanying 50-show tour, called the Miss Possessive Tour, will take off on March 18, 2025, with supporting acts Benee and Zara Larsson.

To promote the album, McRae released the album’s first single, “it’s ok i’m ok” on Sept. 12, along with its accompanying music video, which has over 26 million views. The music video has been said to share similarities with 2000s pop princess Britney Spears’s “I Wanna Go” music video. McRae has also been compared to Spears in terms of her rise to stardom, as well as the outfit she wore to the 2024 MTV VMAs: a black see-through lace dress by Roberto Cavalli, a tribute to Spears’s 2001 VMAs look

She was even interviewed about the similarities at the MTV Video Music Awards, saying, “I honestly take it as a compliment. I think she’s one of the most incredible performers of … the 2000s. I remember watching her as a kid all the time … and I just feel very lucky that she’s seen my performances and knows my music.”

To promote the single, she first performed it live at Madison Square Garden on Aug. 22, just within a month of the single’s official release.

McRae, on top of the new album and tour announcements, also released the second single, “2 hands,” and its music video on Nov. 14. So far, she has only performed the song live once in Sydney, Australia on Nov. 12.

“So Close to What” is available for pre-order, and “it’s ok i’m ok” and “2 hands” are available on all streaming platforms.
