Women’s track and field finishes seventh overall at home

The DePauw University women’s track and field team finished seventh place out of nine teams this weekend at the DePauw Classic on Feb. 17. The Tigers finished with 41 points and saw some strong distance and sprint relay finishes.

The Tigers were led by quality performances in the 3000m run with two consecutive finishes by sophomores Haley Thompson in fifth place (11:11.24) and Tori Flowers in sixth place (11:19.90). Close behind them was senior Andrea Nunez-Garcia in eighth place (12:08.38). These performances combined for eight points.

The Tigers also saw a series of second place finishes with senior Meghan Hennessey in the 5000m run (19:16.90), first-year Pia Ocvirk in the 1000m run (3:28.08), the 4x400m relay (4:43.91) and the distance medley relay (14:05.46).

Another contributor at the meet was senior Rachel Higson in the 800m run (2:37.72), scoring one point for the team. She was followed by senior Mackenzie Jones in 11th place (2:50.95).

The women’s team will compete next week in the Fred Wilt Invitational on Feb. 24 at Anderson University at 3 p.m.
