The DePauw: Why did you start playing basketball?

Josh Hall: In Bloomington, basketball is a big deal, so all of my friends were playing it so I thought I would join in so I could hang out with them more and get involved in something that was big in the community.

TDP: Why did you continue playing basketball?

JH: I like to compete. I’m a competitor, and I feel like basketball gives me that opportunity where I can compete at a high level and win a lot. That’s something I enjoy: just being able to go out there and play against other guys.

TDP: What is your most memorable moment since you’ve started playing?

JH: Winning my sectional championship my senior year because I did it with guys that I grew up with, and it was a pretty special moment for me.

TDP: What do you do to get prepared for competition? (pre-game rituals, music, etc…)

JH: I like to get in and get shots up in the morning before the game. There are certain stretches that I feel get me right for the game.

TDP: What makes the game exciting for you at the collegiate level?

JH: The competition is pretty tough. It’s tough at every level, which is something that I like. It’s all of the different types of athletes that I get to go up against that makes it exciting.

TDP: What were your goals coming into your first season?

JH: I was hoping to do whatever I could to contribute so that we could win as many games as possible.

TDP: What have you been focusing on this season to improve your game?

JH: I’ve been doing my part whether I’m in the game or out of the game; I want to be a good teammate. Finishing was a big deal for me, and as the year has gone by I’ve tried to get better at free-throw shooting. Being able to rebound is a big deal for us as well.

TDP: How are you looking to grow as a player in the next three seasons?

JH: I’m hoping to get bigger so I can compete against bigger guys, as well as improve my skills all around. Being able to shoot from further out, ball handling, posts, etc.

TDP: What is your favorite part about being on a team at DePauw?

JH: Getting to know a group of guys is my favorite part of it. I didn’t know any of the guys coming into the year and now they’re probably my closest friends.
