DePauw University announced Rob Lowe will not be visiting Greencastle, IN for DePauw’s final Ubben lecture of the 2016-2017 academic year.
“I was looking forward to hearing Mr. Lowe speak. I’m a big Parks and Rec Fan and was upset when I heard, but these things happen so I’m just looking forward to rescheduling and seeing him on campus soon,” said junior Arman Nazari.
Rob Lowe, an actor, producer and author, was scheduled to deliver a Timothy and Sharon Ubben Lecture at 7:30 p.m. on May 1. Lowe is known for TV shows such as “The West Wing” and “Parks and Recreation.”
Nazari is amongst several other students who are disappointed that the event has been postponed.
“I am kind of disappointed. I wanted to see Rob Lowe; he would have been really cool and interesting to see, especially at DePauw,” said first-year, Jack Diehm.
Executive Director of Media Relations, Ken Owen, emailed the DePauw community this morning to announce the cancellation. “We've received word from Rob Lowe that he won't be able to make the trip to Greencastle next week. As a result, the Ubben Lecture which was scheduled for Monday, May 1, must be postponed,” Owen said over email.
However, the email did not include any information explaining why Lowe cannot address the DePauw community, but Lowe did tell Owen that he is regretful that he cannot be on Campus this coming Monday.
“This has happened before, when dealing with someone who is a high profile person things come up,” Owen said in his email.
Earlier this week Owen was made apparent that Lowe might have a conflict, but postponing the lecture was confirmed late last night.
Owen is hopeful that the event can be rescheduled, but noted it is difficult to reschedule lectures with working professionals. “Rob is still an active performer and artist and things pop up, he just has a conflict that has emerged,” Owen said.
The Ubben Lecture series was established in 1986 through the support of 1958 graduates Timothy and Sharon Ubben.
