The Tigers took their talents on the road this Wednesday for a matchup against the Franklin University Grizzlies. The Tigers came into this game looking to get back to .500 for the season following a 3-0 loss to Illinois Wesleyan, which left them at 1-2 overall. With DePauw having beat the Grizzlies in their previous two match ups, Wednesday’s game was the perfect opportunity to do so.
But not only did the Tigers win, but their offense came alive, something that had been dormant since last Friday against Kalamazoo.
The first half was quiet, as neither team managed to score. The Tigers needed to make adjustments at the half in order to execute their offensive game plan. These adjustments proved successful as freshman midfielder Katie Webb scored the first goal of the game in the 59th minute of play to put the Tigers up 1-0. Unfortunately for the Tigers, that lead did not last as the Grizzlies were able to tie it up just 3 minutes later. In need of a big play, DePauw’s Elizabeth Seewer emerged in the 73rd minute to put the Tigers ahead 2-1.
The junior forward was not done there, as she put up another goal in 79th minute.
Franklin was never able to respond to either of the late-game goals, leaving the Tigers victorious with a score of 3-1.
Coach Megan McCormick was especially pleased with her team’s determination following a lackluster first half.
“The players responded well to the feedback at halftime and adjusted the pattern of play to create more chances in the second half,” said McCormick.
McCormick was especially pleased with Seewer’s effort.
“She did well to play calm and collected against a very physical back line for Franklin and helped us connect the game in the attacking half of the field,” explained McCormick.
The Tigers will play away Friday night against Transylvania, a team that’s coming off being shut out 4-0 by Centre, who’s 3-0 on the year.
