The women's soccer team did not get the results it was hoping for this past weekend in the Bob Baptista Invitational.
But they gained some useful experience and took a look at what their team is really made of this season.
The Tigers fell to the Blueolds of University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 0-4 on Friday. They played another hard-fought game Saturday against Loras College and lost with a score of 0-1.
Having now played two regular season games and one scrimmage, the team is still looking for their first goal of the season. They have been dealing with a struggling offense for quite some time. Head coach John Carter was looking for better results but was still happy with the weekend's turnout.
"I'm disappointed by the results, but I'm not disappointed in the effort the girls showed, and the preview of where we can go as a team," Carter said.
The team is looking for some guidance on the offensive end but looking to transform their mindset on the field. Senior Alex Ehr said the team gained a lot from the two losses this weekend.
"It was beneficial for us to see where we are at the beginning of the season against some top talent teams," Ehr said. "We learned that we are a hard working team. We will work hard every game we are in, and can count on each other to keep that up the entire game which will eventually bring us better results."
Carter thinks the team doesn't have the mindset needed at this point in the season.
"It is just as much mental as it is physical, and we need to prepare for that," Carter said.
Ehr agreed the team is in need of a new mindset and said training is going to be crucial in the upcoming practices. Still early in the season, the team is experimenting with different formations in hopes of finding the best system for the team.
"We need to play with more of an offensive mindset and moving everyone forward," Ehr said. "Having the whole team attacking with that mindset will help our team a lot."
Starting the season 0-2 is not something the team is excited about, but despite their struggles the team has a good attitude for what is to come.
The Tigers are looking forward to their home opener on Boswell Field tonight at 7 p.m. against the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
