Two DePauw athletes were named NCAC players of the week Tuesday after standout games during the opening weekend.
DePauw senior Margaret Ellis from St. Louis, Mo., netted three goals in the opening weekend helping guide the Tigers to a 1-1 record with a 5-3 win over Bridgewater College and a tough one-goal loss to No. 7 ranked Lynchburg College. Ellis is now fourth all-time in career goals at DePauw with 54 after a three-goal match Wednesday against Wittenberg University.
DePauw junior midfielder George Elliott from Naperville, Ill., led the Tigers to a 2-0-0 weekend with two goals including Friday's game-winner in double over-time to knock off No. 20 ranked Hope College. Elliott settled a blocked cross 10 yards from the left post and chipped the ball over a Flying Dutchman keeper for the game-winner. Against Monmouth College on Saturday, he scored his second goal of the season in a 5-0 win.
