This past Saturday, the DePauw University men’s soccer team took on Illinois Wesleyan in an exhibition match. The Tigers were victorious in their efforts, trumping the Titans game 4-0.

While the game was a scrimmage, the teams completed in no-drills, instead playing a standard 11 vs. 11 match.

We tried to make it as game-like as possible for all the players, theirs and ours. We played with different lineups, different combinations of players. I was really comfortable with every look we gave them

said DePauw head coach Brad Hauter.

The game was leaning in the Tigers’ favor from the very beginning. In the first ten minutes, DePauw scored three goals on the Titans. With the momentum swung DePauw’s way, Illinois Wesleyan was never able to recover from the initial scoring barrage. The Tiger’s scored once more in the latter part of the game, to complete the 4-0 blowout.

Although the scrimmage came with a good outcome for the Tigers, Hauter stresses that looks can be deceiving. “I don’t think it was an accurate view of both teams,” Hauter said. “We scored three very early goals; and no team comes in with a very good game plan of what to do when you’re down three goals in ten minutes.” The match was the one and only scrimmage that the Tigers played before regular season play begins.

The Tigers open up their season at home tonight against Hanover at 7 p.m.
