11 Things That Belong On Your DePauw To-do List

1453

Have you started your DePauw to-do list? You may have four years, but there's a lot going on and not always enough time. These are some suggested must-do's for you!

  • Go to Marvin’s past midnight.
    • Marvin’s is pretty good at any time, but when you’re exhausted, up late studying and you just need a break, grab some friends and snag a booth at Marvin’s. It just tastes better past midnight.
  • Attend Prindle Palooza!!
    • In my opinion, this is one of the best nights during the year. The event is at The Prindle Institute by the DePauw Nature Park on Aug. 24 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and there are free shuttles to and from the event. There is live music, food trucks and prizes. Give it a try!
  • Take a walk in the DePauw Nature Park.
    • I’ve posted snaps of the nature park and my friends from out-of-state think I’m in Arizona because of the beautiful, rocky landscape and it being not as flat as Indiana. I think that’s reason enough.
  • Visit Ashley Square Cinema movie theater.
    • The movie theater is amazing. Not only can you get in free with a student ID, but the popcorn is actually affordable. The movies are always newly released, so it’s honestly an amazing deal.
  • Go to a First Friday Greencastle.
    • First Friday is on the first friday of every month (surprise!) in the Greencastle town square. The streets are closed off and there's food, activities, games and just a bunch of people having a fun time. You’ll have to wait until Sept. 6, but it’s a good opportunity to meet people from the Greencastle community.
  • Attend an Ubben Lecture Series.
    • On Oct. 8, Condoleezza Rice will   give a talk as part of the annual Timothy and Sharon Ubben Lecture Series. No matter your politics or ideologies, this series offers a once in a lifetime opportunity to listen to  some of the most influential people in today’s world. Past speakers include David Cameron, Malala Yousafzai and Bill Clinton, just to name a few.
  • Go bowling.
    • 3G Bowl is an  amazing bowling alley right by campus. Even if you’re not the best bowler (I still use two hands), it’s a great bonding experience with your friends. While you can technically walk, driving is the best option. The lanes are usually clear except for a few local bowling leagues so you may want to call in advance.
  • Stay at Roy O. West  Library until closing.
    • Okay, so this is probably an unpopular suggestion, but staying at Roy until closing is a fun experience. Everyone there is feeling the same pain and if you’re there with friends, you’ll probably end the night laughing together or crying together -both are acceptable.
  • The Monon Bell game. That’s all.
  • Honestly, just go to sports games in general.
    • Everyone hypes up Monon, but I have never  seen a more excited crowd than at women's soccer games.
  •  Play campus golf around DePauw.
    • Drive to the goodwill store, pick up a few old clubs and tennis balls, grab a few friends and go crazy on DePauw’s campus. Similar to golf, the goal is to hit  landmarks in the least amount of strokes. Unlike golf, the landmarks are places like The Boulder, the front door of Lucy Rowland Hall or even the fountains at Stewart Plaza. The options are endless.
