Men’s Tennis Continues the Search for their First Win

The No. 25 Lords of Kenyon College swept the DePauw University men’s tennis team 9-0 to feed them their fifth straight loss of the season. The Tigers fell to 0-5 on the season. Three of the team’s losses thus far have been sweeps.

Junior Greg Frauenheim battled hard in both of his matches. In the doubles match, DePauw came close to ruining the sweep as Frauenheim and first-year Bryce McClanahan battled against their opponents in the No. 1 doubles matchup. The two ended up losing the tiebreaker in a tough 9-8 loss. In Frauenheim’s singles match, he contended, but in the end, faced a tough matchup against his opponent in a 6-3, 6-1 defeat.

In the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matchups, DePauw continued to struggle as both juniors Matthew Quammen and Alex Bertolini fell 8-3 while seniors Sean Carroll and Alex Pintilie were defeated in a closer 8-4 defeat.

The Lord’s dominance continued into the rest of the singles matches. At No. 2, McClanahan suffered a 6-3, 6-1 loss. Next, at No. 3, Pintilie clashed with his opponent but ended with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat. At No. 4, Quammen kept his opponent on his toes in the first match with a 6-4 loss but unfortunately fell in the second with a 6-2 collapse. Lastly, No. 5 senior Michael Kolbus and No. 6 first-year Daniel Kinas were dropped harshly as they were conquered 6-0, 6-3 and 6-0, 6-0.

The Tigers will attempt their first win of the season as they host the 3-1 Earlham College Quakers on Feb. 22 at 4:30 p.m.
