Greencastle Common Council meeting: A community effort

Myer’s Market has requested to have Washington and Walnut Street closed for the celebration of their 5th year anniversary on September 25-29th. The proposal was made at last Thursday’s Greencastle Community Council meeting.

At this event there will be grill-out specials, prizes including a custom pig grill and possibly even a DJ.

“We all want to live in a thriving and growing community. It’s nice to see that my hometown is laying the groundwork for a solid future,” said Mitch Myers.

Back when Mitch Myers started his company, he had a vision of giving Greencastle its very own local butcher shop so people would have the option of getting locally sourced, as well as homemade, products at a good price.

The reason Myers now owns his butcher shop is because he fell in love with the concept while getting an agricultural production degree at Blackhawk Community College.

“Our event would be completed by 4 p.m., and we would have the streets cleaned up and usable by 5 p.m.” said the representative from Myer’s Market.

When Adam Cohen, Swim coach and First Ward of Greencastle asked, “What does the fire and police department think about this?”, both of the respective parties said they are ok with it.

Following this, the common council took a vote which was unanimous and the street closure was approved.
