At 5 p.m. today, President Brian Casey informed university students, faculty and staff via email, who has been named to the "Independent Review Panel" regarding Sept. 23, when The Campus Ministry USA first visited DePauw.

According to the email, these members are "Myra Selby, former associate justice of the Indiana Supreme Court; Joe Slash, former deputy mayor of Indianapolis and retired president of the Indianapolis Urban League; and Troy Riggs, former director of public safety in Indianapolis and now a professor at IUPUI's School of Public and Environmental Affairs.”

Casey regarded them as “distinguished public servants who are well-known throughout Indiana.” Effective immediately, Casey said, this independent committee will review the events from Sept. 23 and offer recommendations to our University.

The charge to the committee, also provided in Casey’s email, outlines what occurred on that day and expressed “concern regarding how DePauw community members engage with—or are engaged by—local and regional police forces.”

Near the end of the email, Casey said the committee has held a preliminary meeting. Information regarding how this committee will conduct itself and how the DePauw and Greencastle communities can involve themselves will be divulged shortly.
